Coming up: February meeting

This will be on finding Lithops in the field – a look at flowering stones in their South African habitat. We are very pleased to have our branch member Roy Earle give this talk! On Tuesday, 16 February 2016, usual time and place.

New branch programme online

The 2016 branch programme of events is now online – as it happens, this year we will be looking at mesembs in particular, but hopefully the programme holds something of interest for everyone: Nurseryman Tony Irons will be sharing his knowledge and experiences of raising cacti and succulents from seed, whilst Kathy and Keith Flannagan […]

Coming up: January meeting

We will be looking at the cactus and succulents of Baja California, by way of a slide show from the BCSS library. The slides were taken by Harold Crane during a trip in the 1960s; the script is by Frank Horwood. The Baja peninsula of Mexico is home to a great many species of cacti […]

Branch programme for 2016

We will publish the complete schedule of events for next year in due course. You can look forward to an expert’s guide to raising cacti and other succulents from seed (nurseryman Tony Irons will be with us), a number of talks on mesembs such as Lithops and their habitats, a report by Paul Klaassen on […]

Contacting our branch officers

Please be aware that currently branch email addresses are not working as they should. We hope to fix the issue in due course.

Coming up: October meeting

We will be looking at Haworthias this month – “Haworthias wild and tame” to be precise. And for that we welcome back Dorothy Minors, who gave a brilliant talk on her travels in Mexico just a couple of years back. This is on 20th October, usual time and place.

No May show next year

At the last committee meeting it was decided to drop the Annual Show from our schedule of branch events. The May exhibitions tend to clash with other cactus events in the region, but we will continue with the Autumn Show – do bring your favourite plants along on Sunday 4 October, and don’t forget we […]

Autumn Show

We now have the schedule for the autumn show available – please find it here. As before, we will hold the show at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, which is different to our meeting venue. Directions can be found in the schedule; and as always you will gain free entry to the gardens on entering one […]

Coming up: August meeting

In August we will be looking at the various groups of smaller opuntiads: cold tolerant and rewarding plants for a collection, although they have a reputation for sometimes being a little shy to flower, and glochids and spines mean that repotting them never is a pleasure… We are pleased to welcome back Tony Roberts, who […]

Coming up: July meeting

We are very pleased to be able to welcome Alan Phipps to our branch, with a talk entitled “Colorado Colour”. It is more an appreciation of the country and its landscape by a seasoned US traveller, although a few plants will also feature so I hear. As always, we meet in the horticultural training centre […]
